Sunday School

Sunday School meets every Sunday at 10.30am.

We usually meet every Sunday at St. John's Church Hall which is about 100 yards from Church.
A recent change has been made with a different service in Church on the First Sunday of the month and for this service the Sunday School will start their session in Church at 10.30am. These services are child-friendly and informal, and give the youngsters an introduction to morning worship. We return to the hall at around 11am for games and crafts as usual and the rest of the congregation join us later for coffee and biscuits.

Sunday School at Snods is fun, lively, sometimes sticky, and you’ll always be guaranteed a warm welcome.

You don’t have to come regularly; just drop in whenever you fancy. We’re always here, even in the school holidays. And it’s free.

Parents and carers are welcome to join in, or, provided the children can use the toilet independently, they may stay on their own if they want to. Teenagers are very welcome, but may prefer to join The Edge – a group aimed at their age group, or enrol in our Confirmation Classes. Contact us to see if sessions are running.

Our 45 minute sessions include action packed games, stories, music, creative crafts, interesting (and occasionally haphazard) science experiments, and lots of running around.

Children of all ages from babies to teens are welcomed into a safe, friendly environment where they can enjoy an introduction to the Bible and learn about the love of Jesus in a relaxed, engaging way that is relevant to their lives.

At the end of the session we walk together to church to join the congregation for Holy Communion and a blessing. The minister encourages the children to talk about their morning and there’s usually lots of vying for the microphone.

At St. John’s we have an excellent congregation who love to hear what the children have been doing and are happy if the children want to play at the back of the church or wander around. Nobody expects them to be quiet.

We have three volunteer Sunday School teachers who are all working mums, and fully DBS checked. Their children will probably be there too, so your little ones will probably have a new friend by the time they leave. They work to a rota, but if all three are unavailable, we have others we can call on who are all DBS checked.

We do lots of exciting things throughout the year. Here’s just a small selection. See our calendar for more details.
Easter – lots of special events over the weekend that children will enjoy including the Good Friday Walk through the country lanes of the parish, the Easter Sunday Dawn Service at Greymare Hill with breakfast, and then an extra-special chocolate fuelled Easter Day Sunday School.
Prize Giving – held annually in the main service; when the minister rewards the little ones for their hard work and their extraordinary contribution to our community.
Harvest Festival – with its delicious shared lunch afterwards.
Shoe Box Sunday – held in early November; the children are invited to fill a shoe box for this well known annual Christmas appeal run by Samaritan's Purse.
The Travelling Posada – when our little wooden figures of Mary and Joseph, with their basket of special things, go from home to home during Advent throughout December. This brings to life the real journey of the Holy Family for children and adults alike, and culminates in their arrival at St. John’s during the Christmas Eve crib service.
Christmas Party – with a visit from Santa, games, prizes and a shared tea.
Christmas Eve Crib Service – a short play or show presented by the children, with practices during the December Sunday School sessions.

Below are some lovely pictures by the children following a recent session on St. Cuthbert:
